Labrador Chipboard

Hello everyone!  Debbie with you today.  When I saw this cute Labrador chipboard by Leaky Shed Studio I knew there was a layout it would fit perfectly!  If you don't know I have 2 Labrador Retrievers...Mojo and Pearl. You will meet Pearl soon via a layout.  This layout is of my first pup..Mojo when she was about 7 weeks old...she is now a year. Isn't she adorable??

No matter what breed of dog you have the Leaky Shed Studio has a chipboard shape for your breed! You can see them Here.

I added some Leaky Shed Studio  Flower Corners to this layout also. I started out by painting them with a copper metallic acrylic paint and then added some spots of teal.  I then highlighted them with Viva Inka.

Thanks for stopping by the Leaky Shed Studio Blog today!!

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!

Steampunk with Leaky Shed Studio!

Maggi here with another tag, they are just so fun to make!  Everyone is busy preparing for the holidays and there are so many fun holiday projects on the web right now.  Well, I just have to be a little different, I need a break from red and green!

I love the fantasy of Steampunk designs and the Steampunk Cameo is one of my favorites.  I paired it with Graphic 45's Steampunk Spells and made this tag that would be great for someone graduating high school or college, or maybe someone embarking on a special adventure.

I like long tags, this one is about 8 1/2" x 3 1/2" and when you take into consideration the lace at the bottom and the cut apart card, its really 4" x 11".

I've been asked, "How did you get the wording on that little tag?"  That's easy, I print it on a transparency and then adhere with a glue that dries clear.  Vellum tape will also work but I like clear glue better.

Here's a closeup of the chippy.  I sprayed it all over with Glimmer Mist - black magic first.  Then I dabbed on random spots of glue and sprinkled with ebony microbeads just to add some texture and contrast.  After that dried I topped the beads with a little glossy accents so that they would stay put!

The best thing about this tag?  It took less than an hour to make.  I love a quick project!

This week we are celebrating what is probably America's favorite holiday, Thanksgiving.  I wish you all a very healthy and happy Thanksgiving.  I hope you are able to spend time with those you love.

Thanks for stopping by,

Maggi

Noel Christmas Banner

Christmas is coming and for many of us decorating for the holidays will begin soon, if it hasn't already. I am planning to start my decorating right after Thanksgiving and I wanted to get a jump start by creating a Noel Christmas Banner to hang on our media cabinet for our family Christmas dinner. I think it would also look great hanging on a mantel or even on the wall. The banner I created was easy to put together with some fabulous Leaky Shed Studio chipboard, ribbon, patterned paper and glitter glue.

Let's take a closer look at how I created my banner:
  1. Begin with 6 of the Pennant Banners as your base.
  2. Cover each banner piece with Christmas themed patterned paper.
  3. String the banner pieces to together by tying each piece to the next piece using a 16" length of red ribbon. Once the ribbon is threaded through the neighboring banner pieces, tie the ribbon in a bow.
  4. Spell the word "Noel" using the Large Type 4" Alphabet and cover each letter with gold glitter.
  5. Create the white outline by adhering each chipboard letter to white cardstock and trim around it with scissors.
  6. Attach letters to banner base.
  7. Embellish with paper holly leaves and jewels.

Some options for creating the holly leaves would be to cut them by hand, use a metal die or use an electronic cutting machine.  I cut mine using a digital cutting file that I created and cut with my Silhouette Cameo. If you are interested in this cutting file, it will be available to download for FREE on my blog tomorrow along with a more detailed supply list.

Santa's helper, Naughty or Nice?

Hi there all my scrappy friends, Maggi here to share this blast from my past with you as I thought it appropriate for the fast approaching holiday season.  Yep, I was one of Santa's helpers and I thought this photo was perfect to pair with our Julie Nuttig Naughty or Nice 4' chipboard doll and our oval Victorian frame.

I've painted her skin with watercolors and her hair and boots with markers.  My favorite thing to use on chipboard is embossing powder and I keep finding different ways to apply the powder.  On this one, I squirted a litle bit of Distress embossing ink out and used a small paintbrush to paint the ink on her dress.  That way I was able to avoid getting ink in the cracks that define her pretty skirt.  The I sprinkled with Ranger Embossing Antiquities in chinese red.  I used a straight pin to clean out any stray powder in the lines and heat embossed.  I love the effect of the enamel on her dress and hat.  For the fur trim on her hat and dress, I dabbed on Aileene's Glitter Snow with a stiff paintbrush.

I also used the largest Leaky Shed's Victorian frame around my photo.  I heat embossed the frame with Stampendous aged gold embossing enamel.  It gives the frame such a pretty antiqued look.

Layout with Inked Chipboard

Hi everyone! It's Robbie, today.  I'm sharing a layout that I made using 3 of the Leaky Shed pieces.

This is a picture of my daughter and my niece taken during a girl's only weekend. I took this picture at dinner when we let my husband participate by taking us out for a fancy dinner.  Of all of us, my niece (on the left) deserved to be treated!  She's the sweet mommy of 5!

The Perfect Day

You can see that I used 3 pieces of chipboard.  I kept thinking about techniques to use on them, but finally settled on simply inking them to darken them up a bit.  I love the natural look of the chipboard, as is, but wanted to have them stand out a bit more.

I used Cat's Eye Chestnut Roan chalk ink to add the touch of extra color.

Because I cropped the picture close, the chipboard corner piece made more sense to use a design element to frame the photo instead of being used in the traditional way,  I use a few sticky pearls to embellish it a touch.

Lastly, I used a paper butterfly layered over the top of the chipboard butterfly.  I liked the way I was able to echo and frame the lighter colored paper butterfly to make it stand out more in the design.

Paint, Stamps and Embossing powder!

Hello everyone!  Debbie here today sharing a layout using the Leaky Shed Studio Flourish #2. This layout was so fun, a little mixed media and some stamping is always a good time!
Here's a Close-up of my flourish.
To decorate my Flourish I started out by painting it with Yellow Ochre, once it was dry I stamped on it with a large letter background stamp and Stazon.  I then covered it with VersaMark and clear embossing powder.

How do you alter you chipboard embellishments? We'd love to see!

All Dressed Up for Christmas ~ Tag

Hi everyone. It's Tracey here to share a tag featuring the Julie Nutting 4" Naughty or Nice Christmas doll. Yes, you know me all too well. I went with a nice version. These girls are so fun to work with and as you've seen in our design team examples can be used in so many different ways!!

Tips and Techniques:
Here you can see a few more details on my doll. Her dress and hair were colored with Copic Markers, then her body and shoes painted. The fluffy edges on her dress, hat and shoes were created with white Liquid Applique. This is a fun product that you apply, allow to dry, then when heat is applied, it puffs up. To add sparkle, I brushed the puffed areas with Designer Dries Clear glue and sprinkled with Fairy Dust Glitter by Donna Salazar. It's not too visible in the photos, but I brushed Heidi Swapp Cherry Color Shine over the red for a touch of soft shimmer.

This wrinkled bow is a great way to finish off a tag. I have a tutorial on creating Grungy Wrinkled Ribbon from rayon seam binding here.

I die cut the green layer using a Spellbinders die and added sparkle to the flourish corners with more Fairy Dust Glitter. The white snowflake border was brushed with Stickles. Lots of shimmer on this tag!

The bottom was layered with lacy punched Christmas paper, gorgeous white lace embellished with pearls, a strip of red rhinestones and more Fairy Dust Glitter on the punched yellow border.

The Merry Christmas sentiment was printed on a transparency sheet. I also tucked in a snippet of gold doily and a punched snowflake heat embossed with glitter/holographic embossing powder.

Delight. 12x12 layout.

Hello everyone. Tiffany here.
I have created a layout. I have used many fabulous chipboard pieces from Leaky Shed Studios

What I did with the chipboard is pretty easy. I painted them with Gesso and them used some sprays on them from Lindys Stamp Gang. I wanted to create a layout with few colors and make it very shabby looking. I also wanted to step out of my creative box and use blue.
I used the Picket fence which I painted and stamped on it. I also used some spray on it. I also used the Flower corner and pained and sprayed it as well.  I used my favorite items from LSS which are the Spring Butterflies.

Here are some up close pictures of the layout.

Here is a supply list.
Prima Delight paper and embellishments
Lindys Stamp gang spray.

It's all about the DRESS, Julie Nutting Doll style

Hey friends, It's Kris.  Don't be hatin'.  I'm going to droll over the
Julie Nutting Doll's again.
When  I saw the Classy, a Julie Nutting Doll, I knew I wanted her
on a layout using the photo of my son and his date before a school dance.
Her cute halter dress was just like his dates.
All I had to do was paint & sew a litte to make them matching.

To color my Leaky Shed Studio doll, I started with a flesh color Gelato from
Faber-Castell and blended it in all over the chipboard doll.
Then I used acrylic paints to finish her hair, dress & shoes.

Here's a close up of Classy....
I used a Prima butterfly to give her wings and sewed some white
netting to give her a lacy skirt under her dress.

Warning: Dressing up these dolls can seriously become addicting.

I hope you all have a FABULOUS weekend!

Chipboard and Krylon Gold Leafing Pen

Hi everyone! Juliana here to share a scrapbook layout and a fun tip on how to color your chipboard. The fun thing about Leaky Shed Studio chipboard is its wonderful versatility. I love that you can easily customize it to fit your style or the theme of your project. One of my favorite go-to methods to personalize chipboard is to use a Krylon Gold Leafing Pen. It's as easy as simply coloring the chipboard with the pen until it is fully covered.

Best Friends Forever Scrapbook Layout by Juliana Michaels

I have also noticed that if you do not push down and expel a large amount of the ink, the pen does not fill in or cover up the wonderfully etched details that are present on many of the Leaky Shed Studio chipboard pieces. You can see an example of how these designs are still intact on the Barbed Wire Border and Tiny Horseshoes that I used to help develop the theme of my layout about my husband and our horse Woody.

Dressing up your chippies with embossing powder!

Hi everyone and happy Wednesday!  Maggi here today to share my favorite chipboard embellishment technique.  I love Leaky Shed Studio's chipboard embellishments, they just add so much to a layout!  Here I've added a couple of Leaky Shed keyholes and a key.  I love how they add just the right touch of vintage to this layout.

Notice how the keyhole looks pitted and tarnished.  I achieved that look by first covering my chipboard with brass cream rubon.  You could just as well paint the chippy too.  Then I dabbed on a little embossing ink, (I use an embossing ink dabber from Stampendous rather than an ink pad), being careful not to cover the entire chipboard, then I sprinkled on Stampendous Aged Bronze embossing enamel.  That is my go to enamel for chippies!   I wanted to be sure and keep the detailed lines visible on the chipboard so I took a needle and drew it through the lines to clean out any embossing powder that had adhered to the grooves.  You can also take a fine paint brush and sweep off some of the powder if you have too much.  Now you are ready to heat set the powder and this is the result.

I just love the look on this key!

Supplies:

  Graphic 45 Typography collection
 Graphic 45 Staples letter stickers
 Typography chippy stickers
 Stampendous Aged Bonze Embossing Enamel
 Alterations Sizzix Artful Words
WRMK Lucky 8 Lace Kerchief
Metal Graphic 45 Staples,  Prima Bellas, handmade
Flying Unicorn Metal Adornment keys and bicycle

Next up, another tag with the fabulous Julie Nuttig chipboard dolls.  This started out as a mixed media tag as you can see on the background but I ended up covering most of that!  LOL, that often happens to me.  I just can't get enough of these dolls.  They are so cute and so fun to dress!  This is  4" Princess and I painted her dress with Perfect Pearls gold and the ruffle is Luminarte pink cloud. One thing I really love about leaky Shed chipboard is the detail lines that are cut into the chipboard; they add so much fine detail.  I want to be sure to keep that detail so I am careful not to get paint in the lines but if I do, I just take a straight pin and draw it through the line and that usually fixes it right up!

Again I used Stampendous embossing enamel on her crown,
this time in aged gold.

I also popped up the doll to give her even more dimension.

Supplies:

Kaisercraft Curiosity paper collection
Stampedous Aged Gold Embossing Enamel
Flying Unicorn Adornments metal leaves
Prima Mechanicals Vintage Trinkets
Petaloo Mixed Texture Mini Blossoms Apricot
Kaisercraft bling

Mixed Media Canvas with Julie Nutting Classy Doll

Hi, it's Tracey here with my first design team project using gorgeous Leaky Shed Studio chipboard. You may have noticed that we're playing with the fabulous and fun Julie Nutting Dolls. I have a lovely gift idea for you. Who doesn't love to receive a handcrafted decor piece? I used the Julie Nutting 4" Classy Doll as my focal piece on this sweet mixed media canvas for my niece.

"Contentment"

Tips and Techniques:
I cut two different patterns of coordinating paper to dress the doll skirt and painted the top in a coordinating color. To give dimension and depth, I added highlights with gesso in the folds of the skirt. Her hair is colored with a Vintage Photo Distress marker, and I swirled two shades of gold metallic paint together to color her belt. I used flesh tone acrylic paint for her skin and added a touch of color to her cheeks with distress ink.

Here's a side view of the canvas focusing on the girl. You can see how the metallic paint on her belt shimmers in the light!

I adore texture and dimension and enjoyed getting messy fingers creating this textured canvas. I started by adhering gorgeous Maja paper to the canvas with matte gel medium, then brushed the gel medium across the top of the paper so it would hold up to my mixed media techniques. I stamped script, grid marks, and music notes in brown. When that ink was dry, I stamped with more script and bubble wrap in white, sprinkled with white embossing powder and heat embossed. I cut a couple small pieces of sheet rock mesh for the corners, then used a doily stencil with light molding paste over top of everything else. The sides of the canvas were painted in a coordinating color swirled with gesso. When dry, I spritzed the entire canvas with a gold mica laden mist allowing it to drip over and color the sides of the canvas as well. The mica adds such a wonderful, glowing shimmer.

The sentiment, from Word Art Wednesday was sized and printed on white cardstock. I tore it out, rubbed on Distress Ink to color, then glued in place.

Here's an angle that shows all the lovely texture.

More Julie Nutting Dolls

Happy Monday everyone!  Monday's can't be bad when you have Julie Nutting Chipboard to play with!  This is Robbie and I'm super excited to have my first post for the Leaky Shed Design Team.

I'm a big fan of Julie Nutting and actually purchased her book and played with her tips for drawing my own dolls.  Let me tell you, having them all cut out and ready to go is much easier than coming up with your own!  As you've already seen from some of the other designers, these little dolls are so versatile and there are endless ways to decorate them to suit your personal style.

I made a sign using three of the chipboard dolls.

This sign is only about 5x8" so it makes a perfect little door hanger.  It is one I picked up at Hobby Lobby for about a dollar.  I am forever picking up little bits and pieces to alter.

I chose to paint the doll's bodies and hair and to make their dresses from paper.

Tip:  Before I started decorating them, I ran them through my printer and made a copy.  I then printed the copy on lightweight cardstock to make a pattern for cutting the clothes.  It's a super quick and easy!

After covering them with paper, I used my PITT Big Pens to add some details to the dresses in purple and blue.  I used a fine Pitt Artists pen to do the outlining and the details on their hair.

You can see that the outlining and details that I added are very loose.  I wanted some movement in the dresses but didn't worry about perfection.  Just a few brush strokes will do the trick.

To finish them off, I spritzed them with Perfect Pearls to add some sheen.

Julie Nutting dolls. Step by step video.

Hello. Tiffany Here. I am super excited to designing for such a fabulous company.

Today is my first blog post and I have 2 tags to share with you featuring the Julie nutting 4 inch dolls. These are great for tags, cards and other projects.

Feliz Navidad tag.
This tag is featuring the Naughty or Nice doll. I used some watered down gesso to paint a coat on the doll. I then used some bic markers to color the doll. I also used a versamark pen for the white on the hat, shoes and dress. I used pearl embossing powder from Lindy's Stamp Gang. It gives it a nice shimmery white tone. For the tag I used some scrap paper. I then used a laser cut frame from Manor House Creations. I used some gorgeous lace from The Piece by Piece. The sentiment is from Verve Stamps. I used some MHC flowers to finish the tag.

You are so beautiful tag

This tag features the Princess doll

For this tag I made a video so you can see how I created the tag.

I had so much fun creating with the dolls. Make sure to pick yours up.
